Last Friday, September 21, was the United Way Day of Caring. Organized by United Way King County, the Day of Caring is the largest one-day mobilization of volunteers in King County.

UWKC is reporting that 2012 was the biggest year ever for the Day of Caring! Check out the numbers:

  • Total volunteers: 12,122
  • Total companies represented: 138
  • Total projects completed: 448
  • Total hours of labor: 59,737
  • Total value of work: $1.3 million

Habitat for Humanity Seattle/South King County hosted volunteer groups from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Microsoft. The Gates Foundation team was out at Rainier Vista working on a four-plex unit scheduled to be completed and ready for family move-ins by the end of 2012.

The team from Microsoft helped us get started on a Priority Markets rehab in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. This Beacon Hill home is the first in a partnership between Habitat, Homestead Community Land Trust and HomeSite that will leverage each organization’s core strengths to acquire, rehabilitate and sell 10 Seattle homes currently vacant and foreclosed. Learn more about the Priority Markets program here.

Our most sincere thanks go out to the crews from Gates and Microsoft for their hard work last Friday and their commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity year-round.
